While cities like Orlando are becoming the new dream of the Puerto Rican community, New York still throws the largest party of them all. And although the powers that be continue to dissolve the island’s potential, the Puerto Rican nation continues to grow through music, food, language and history. The
Shining Star of the Caribbean posed as an anomalous beacon of protest
against the US military occupation of Iraq as the people of Puerto Rico continue to question their own political relationship with the United

Part of the tension and anxiety in Puerto Rico today may stem from the possibility that, for the first time in history since human beings have walked on that island, we could see the creation of a free state. Is the United States about to unchain its Caribbean colony? Little else makes sense in light of the events since September 23, 2005. |

Some have received the President's Task Force On Puerto Rico's Status with hope that it will spur action, either in the US or locally in Puerto Rico.
